Tourism
The Council recognises the value of tourism to each and every business in our City. Tourists are not just from overseas or interstate but, as important for the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters, from regional South Australia as well. And tourists use all kinds of products and services such as petrol stations and supermarkets, not just restaurants and boutiques.
The Parade is a major drawcard for visitors and is recognised as a national tourist attraction, famous for its great variety of dining options mixed in with a diverse array of fashion, alongside the indulgence of hair and beauty salons.
Then there's Magill Road, brimming with unique homewares and antiques, and eclectic gifts and nik-naks - perfect for the backpacker looking for that exclusive souvenir or the business traveller browsing for a keepsake to take home.
Both of these precincts are only five minutes from the CBD.
And for all kinds of visitors, there's the irresistible summertime lure of our two beautiful swimming pools at Norwood and Payneham, open all day every day from October to March.
The City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters contains some of the oldest urban areas in Adelaide, with European settlement dating from 1837. The historic character of the City is an essential element of its cultural identity. This special sense of place is represented in its heritage, landscape and cultural diversity, and in the distinctive community values that underpin life in this City.
Neighbouring Adelaide City, Norwood Payneham & St Peters is the ultimate location away from the hustle and bustle but still just around the corner.
Developing Tourism in our City
To further develop our City's tourism market, Council has partnered with the South Australian Tourism Commission which provides the following opportunities:
- A full page advertisement in the Adelaide Visitor Guide, the official visitor guide for the Adelaide region. Each year, 350,000 copies are distributed around our State, interstate and internationally. In 2007, this publication will also include the Shopping in Adelaide guide.
- Web links in the Adelaide Visitor Guide and on the Adelaide consumer website.
- A full page advertisement in the glossy new Dining in Adelaide - the definitive food and wine guide to Adelaide. In 2006, 40,000 copies were distributed throughout visitor accommodation, travel centres and airports, and retail centres around the state, country and world.
Other Advertising
The Council also advertises in the pocket-sized Adelaide & Attractions. Every fortnight, 10,000 are distributed to over 200 tourism outlets around our State and at interstate country bus and rail terminals. That's 260,000 copies per year! And, Council's one page advertisement can be changed monthly to reflect the vibrancy of our dynamic City.
Previous advertisements have featured the Natuzzi The Parade Food, Wine and Music Festival, the Norwood and Payneham swimming pools, and the 'Magill Road Treasure Trove' shopping precinct.
A New Travel Magazine in SA
Well known West Australian magazine Scoop Traveller launched its South Australia and Northern Territory edition late in 2005. The Council advertises our City in the biannual issues. Scoop Traveller is targeted at the mid to high income earning local and visitor market with 40,000 copies per print run distributed locally, nationally and internationally.
