Rates Policy

The Council is required, pursuant to Section 171 of the Local Government Act 1999 to develop a Rating Policy for each financial year.

The Rating Policy establishes the Council's approach to the setting and collecting of rates from the community.

A summary of the policy is forwarded to each ratepayer in conjunction with the rate notice.

The Rates Policy sets out information relating to the following:

  • The relationship between Council's strategic plans, its budget and rates structure
  • Council's revenue raising powers
  • Method used to value land
  • Adoption of valuations
  • Business Impact Statement
  • Differential general rates
  • Minimum rate
  • Water Catchment levy (the Council's collection role)
  • Pensioner and Self Funded Retiree concessions
  • Other State Government Concessions
  • Payment of rates
  • Late payment of rates
  • Sale of land for non-payment of rates
  • Remission and postponement of rates
  • Rebate of rates
  • Rate Capping rebate
